Perfect Your Resumes and Cover Letters: Use These Grammar Websites

I wanted to offer some help for those like me, who struggle with one phrase, one word, and one thought from making prose purple or just plain wrong. I use these to help me with resumes, cover letters, articles, and the like. Before you say you don’t need this, look at your résumé, and then have it proofread by an English major, copywriter, or even me.

If we tell it’s perfect fine, if not, well use one or more of the resources below. Again, I preference this all by saying that nothing replaces a couple of human eyes to proofread for perfection. Here at Competitive Resumes, there are at least three of us to proof read all resumes:

Quick and Dirty Tips

image I listen to this a few times a week, some segments twice, and the archives. Each tip is only a 7 minute (on average) listen and really is helpful. If your  boss told you at some point that your E-mail messages need to improve, then this is one of the best tools possible. The current podcast is on “Dangling Particles”, and boy, I bet someone needs that one.

Purdue Online provides a specialty resource for job search writing and it’s FREE help. For such charity, this site provides extensive grammar aid in writing resumes, cover letters, or just to conduct research on companies of interest.

EssayRater.com

This might be one of the best sites on the web for checking that awkward sentence you’re unsure of. All you have to do is sign up for free, and then you can use the sentence checker. Not only does it check spelling, grammar, and other errors like Microsoft Word, EssayRater also checks for Plagiarism and tells what site you might have copied from. The FREE version will not tell what the errors are. It will only alert you what kind of error there is. You can pay the $19.95 for that bit of disclosure, otherwise use the FREE version.

After The Deadline

The website is actually http://www.polishmywriting.com/ and is just the user friendly interface, you, and the text you want to correct. No sign up, and again, is free. Put the phrase in that you need to check for corrections, and the checker will show style, spelling, and grammar corrections. It’s very easy to use.

I’m sure there are others so if you have suggestions, feel free to indulge.
